About Studenten Net Twente (SNT)
We are mostly a bunch of nerds that really like computers. SNT started in 1994, originally to facilitate internet on campus. Now, SNT has become an association with a 'hackerspace' vibe. A place where you can work, hang out with other nerds, and learn while playing with cool tech!
We run IRC, Matrix servers with thousands of users for the greater internet, and also a major FTP server serving a large part of the Netherlands.
SNT cooperates heavily with LISA, our university's IT department. We can sometimes be found nagging about wifi speeds, IPv6 being broken, or other things, but most of the time it's just talk about interesting things IT.
And not to forget: SNT is also responsible for hosting over a 100 websites for associations and student houses throughout the UT through our free Hornet platform. All these services are maintained by volunteers that work on these projects during entertaining working days with pizza. We also organise fun activities for our volunteers in order to do something completely different for a change. If this sounds like fun, take a look at our committees or come by in our lunch hour.
Projects
Next to hosting a Matrix server, Linux mirrors and many other things, we do other projects as well. You can find some of our projects here.
One of our big projects is SNT Pings. It is a kind of Pixel Flood, but with IPv6 and a big bandwidth. If you are interested, you can watch the SNT talk at NLNOG Day 2025 on YouTube.
